Animal Chess 斗兽棋: Jungle

Animal Chess, also called Jungle or 斗兽棋 (Dou Shou Qi), is the classic Chinese board game where eight animals race for the enemy den. The Elephant outranks the Lion, the Lion outranks the Tiger, and so on down to the little Rat, the only smaller animal that can capture the Elephant. Play it against a thoughtful offline opponent, at your own pace. Everything runs on your device. There is no account to make, no sign-in, no internet connection needed, and nothing to wait for. ────────────────────────────── HOW TO PLAY ────────────────────────────── Tap one of your pieces and its moves light up as dots, with a ring around anything it can capture. Tap a dot to move there. Every piece steps one square up, down, left or right. A piece captures an enemy of equal or lower rank by moving onto it. Get any piece into your opponent's den to win, or capture every piece they have. ────────────────────────────── RIVERS, TRAPS AND DENS ────────────────────────────── Two rivers split the board, and only the Rat can swim. The Lion and the Tiger leap straight across a river, unless a Rat is swimming in the way. Each den is guarded by three traps, and an enemy standing in one of your traps can be taken by any of your pieces. A game that goes round in circles ends in a draw, so every game finishes. ────────────────────────────── THREE LEVELS THAT ACTUALLY DIFFER ────────────────────────────── Easy plays a relaxed game and sometimes picks a looser move. Medium looks four turns ahead, yours and its own, and checks every trade before it makes one. Hard looks six turns ahead and follows the captures deeper still. At every level the opponent takes a win the moment it sees one, and it never hands you a win you could take in a single move. ────────────────────────────── A DAILY MATCH ────────────────────────────── Every calendar day has one shared opening, generated from the date itself. Everyone playing that day starts from the same position, entirely offline. Play it each day and your streak grows. ────────────────────────────── BUILT FOR COMFORTABLE PLAY ────────────────────────────── The board fills the width of the screen, with large pieces that show the animal and its rank number at once. Show the classic Chinese characters, or switch the pieces to English names in Settings. Play Blue and move first, or play Red and let the opponent open. There is no timer anywhere and no pressure to move quickly. Leave in the middle of a game and it is waiting exactly where you left it, even after a restart. Regret a move? Undo takes back your move and the reply it drew, captured pieces included.
