When placing a stone, you can only place it if there is an opponent's stone between yours.
If you place a stone so that an opponent's stone is wedged between your own stones, you can capture it.
However, the captured stone does not disappear; it remains in its place, transformed into your own stone. In other words, you flip the opponent's stone and make it your own.
