Shove your way to the front. Dodge what the road throws at you. Cross the line first. The road is packed with runners and every one of them is in your way. Barge through the pack, swerve around the wreckage and the dust devils, and get to the finish before the runner beside you does. Politeness is not a strategy here. HOW TO PLAY You run forward automatically. Steer left and right with one finger, and use the crowd rather than avoiding it. Barrelling into other runners shoves them aside and buys you ground. Barrelling into a barrier, a bin or a spinning column of dust does the opposite and costs you the lead. The road is littered with both, usually right next to each other. A race bar at the top shows exactly where you are against your rival. It is rarely comfortable reading. FEATURES • PUSH THROUGH THE PACK — The crowd is an obstacle and a tool. WHY IT WORKS Most runners want you to thread a clean line through everything. This one lets you be blunt about it. Running straight into a pack of people and watching them scatter is the core pleasure, and the game never makes you feel bad about it. The tension comes from knowing which collisions help and which ruin you. Another runner is a free push. A bin is a full stop. They are frequently a metre apart, and at speed they look more similar than you would like. THE RIVAL BAR The bar along the top is the whole game in one line. It shows you and your rival, and it moves constantly. Fall behind and every decision gets more desperate. Get ahead and you start protecting a lead instead of chasing one, which is its own kind of mistake. Most races are decided in the last stretch by somebody taking a risk they did not need to. WEAR THE CROWN The leader wears a crown, and it is visible from behind, which means you always know exactly who you need to catch. It is a small touch that changes how a race feels. Chasing a crown is very different from chasing a number. Take the lead and it transfers to you, along with the uncomfortable knowledge that everybody behind can now see precisely where you are. SHORT RACES, LONG SESSIONS A track takes about a minute, and a lost race costs you only the tap to start the next one. You lose by half a length, you know exactly which bin did it, and the rematch is already loading. QUICK TIPS • Aim through runners, not around them. Contact is free speed. • Obstacles do not move. Learn the placements and route early. • Do not chase the bar. Run your own line and it catches up. • When the road narrows, commit to one side. Indecision loses more races than bad luck. WHAT IS ON THE ROAD The desert stretches are deliberately busy. Hurdles you can clear if you are lined up and cannot if you are not. Bins that stop you dead. Office chairs and crates that have no business being on a road at all. And the dust devils, which drift across the track, so the gap you spotted may not be there when you arrive. The first run through a track is chaos. The fourth is a plan.
