The guardian attacks automatically, so move to ensure the magic shots hit the monsters. Monsters will attack when they reach the gate. Monsters and the gate each have HP. You win by defeating all monsters, and you lose if the gate's HP runs out. But don't worry! Even if you lose, you will earn coins based on how many monsters you defeated along the way.
