Plingo is a small, calm collection of English games for children aged 4 to 12. Various games, arranged into short adventure chapters that a child follows one game at a time. Each game takes a couple of minutes, and each one teaches something small and concrete: which words are real, what a picture is called, whether a surprising fact is true. There is no lesson to sit through, nothing to read before you can start, and a child who cannot yet read can play every game in the app. THE GAMES • Word Ninja — real words and invented ones fall together. Slice the real ones and let the made-up ones drop. • Feed the Monster — the monster asks for something to eat and three foods appear. Tap the right one. Every prompt is read out, so no reading is required. • Picture Twist — sets of picture puzzles built from real photographs: colours, first letters, everyday actions, in / on / under. Find the photograph the sentence describes. • Raindrops — objects fall from the sky and the matching word has to be caught before they land. Animals, food, clothes, fruit, vegetables, school things and more. • True or WOW?! — a strange fact appears on a card. Swipe right if it is true, left if it is not. • More games added regularly. SHORT ON PURPOSE A session is a couple of minutes rather than half an hour, which suits how young children actually play and makes the app easy to hand over and easy to put down. Progress is kept between sessions, so the path picks up where it left off. The games ask for different things on purpose. One wants a quick decision, one wants careful looking, one wants a guess and then a surprise. Nothing is locked behind a score, so a child who finds one of them hard still moves on to the next. Most of the games are bundled inside the app and work without a connection. Some of them, like Picture Twist, stream their photographs and sounds from our own servers, so they need to be online.
