Berimbau 3D is a free practice simulator for the berimbau, designed for those who study or want to get closer to capoeira without needing to have the instrument in hand.
In the game, you play the berimbau with two on-screen controls: the stick, which strikes the wire, and the dobrão, the coin that changes the note between open, sharp, and tight. It's the same logic as playing a real berimbau, adapted for touch on a cell phone or tablet.
WHAT YOU CAN CONFIGURE
- Rhythm: choose between Angola, São Bento Grande, and São Bento Pequeno, the three traditional rhythms of capoeira, or activate Free Practice, without notes or score, just you and the berimbau.
- Timbre: viola, médio, or gunga, the three registers that form the berimbau ensemble in a roda (capoeira circle).
- Speed: slow, balanced, or fast.
- Repique: rhythmic variations that appear with adjustable frequency, from None to High, to train reaction to these breaks before encountering them in a real roda.
- Starting mode: Standard, with a fixed number of notes (20, 40, 60 or 100), or Free, without automatic end.
CONTENT ABOUT CAPOEIRA AND BERIMBAU
The game also includes informative educational texts explaining the origin of the berimbau, its arrival in Brazil, how and when it joined the capoeira roda, its role in the capoeira roda, and what the toques and repiques are.
WHO IT'S FOR
For those learning capoeira and wanting to train their ear and reading of the toques outside the roda, for teachers looking for a support tool, and for anyone curious about this instrument and its history.
Berimbau 3D is an academic research project in development. It is a free practice space, designed to evolve with feedback from those who play.
