Classic faces, big bold JQKA indices, or four-colour suits that make every suit jump out – played on wood, marble or green felt. 📖 HOW TO PLAY • Two players, one standard 52-card deck, ten cards each • Sets are three or four cards of the same rank; runs are three or more cards in sequence in the same suit • On your turn, draw one card from the stock or the discard pile, then discard one card face-up • Melds stay hidden until the hand ends • Card values: Ace 1, number cards at face value, Jack, Queen and King 10 each • Knock when your deadwood – the cards left outside your melds – is 10 or less • Go gin when all ten cards form melds: the gin bonus is 20 points and your opponent may not lay off • If the knocker is not gin, the defender may lay off unmatched cards onto the knocker's melds • Undercut: if the defender's deadwood ends up equal or lower, they score the difference plus a 10-point bonus • If the stock is down to its last two cards, the hand is a draw and a new one begins • Matches run to a fixed point total, from 50 up to 100 depending on the table Gin rummy is also known as gin, gin rommé and rommee, and sits alongside classics like rummy, canasta, cribbage and pinochle.
