Your aim is to pop those animals before they pop you (or sometimes NOT pop them), but you will be beset by danger: the lights could go out in the cave (you popped the torch!), a rogue dynamite stick could scupper your attempt to collect cheeses, maybe an moose impersonates a deer? Other such things too.
